EP 404: James Nash and Charles Post

November 21, 2019 by Cody Rich

An ecologist and a rancher walk into a bar…

James Nash and Charles Post are both great friends of mine and separately I have some great talks with both of these fine gentlemen about careers, goals, people, good times, and all kinds of random things about life. The thing I appreciate about both of these guys is that in conversation they often times challenge my thinking or provide a new perspective and even if we disagree, that’s fine, we’re still good buddies.

I had James and Charles both in the studio and we had a good time talking about Charles’ new found obsession with whitetail hunting and his journey as a hunter in general. We talked about the hunting experience and what it is and/or isn’t to each of us and how that evolves. We shared a lot of laughs about all the things we used to believe or held to be true. If you take nothing else from this wide-ranging podcast, it’s probable that there are far more things in common between a UC Berkely Ecologist and an Eastern Oregon rancher than you thought.

From backpacks to sleeping bags, and now much more, Stone Glacier is always pushing the envelope in creating the best and lightest gear for serious mountain hunters. This year I have hauled close to a thousand pounds of meat out on my back using my Xcurve frame and it is hands down the best pack frame I have ever used.
Whether I am using my Approach 1800 bag for day hunts or my 40/56 for backpacking trips, I can swap out bags onto my Xcurve frame and have a super lightweight pack that can still handle the heaviest of loads coming back out.

This episode is brought to you by On X Maps. As if On X wasn’t one of the most used tools already, On X has launched some assume new features that make it even better. Sharing waypoints has been a great feature but now you have the ability to share where things like camp, the truck, treestands, and even complete routes with whoever you want. One cool way I have been using this as a solo hunter is that I can not only share a pin with my wife showing where my truck is but I am also able to send her the route I plan to take that way if anything happens they have some idea where I am. This great new feature is also great for sharing routes on how to get to a stand or glassing location. All of this is just one more reason why you need to get yourself the an On X Membership and truly start utilizing its potential. Signup at onxmaps.com and use the TRO code to save yourself 20% off.
