EP 098: Rachel Ahtila: Girls Gone Guiding – Takeover Edition

January 27, 2017 by Cody Rich

Hey guys and gals, welcome the show. We have a special episode for you today. My good friend Rachel Ahtila, who has been on the podcast a few times. I Think her first appearance was way back in episode 048, where we talk a lot about how she went againts all conventional wisdom and set out on a path to chase her dream. I just have so much appreciation for anyone who sets out against the grain to chase their dream, when the default in life is to take the safe route. If you have not listen to that episode yet I highly recommend it. Anyway Rachel and I had planned on doing a episode while we were at sheep show. We still hadn’t figured out what we wanted to cover but she told me, “we Have to have my friend Jessie on”, and “we need to have my friend Kayla on”. Well one thing led to another, and I got voted out of the show. So, yeah that happened.
That’s ok though because I have nothing but admiration for these girls who are making their way, and showing others that it can be done. It really does show, If you want something in life, go out and get it. These girls are tougher than half of the men I have hunted with. I hope you enjoy this hostile takeover of the show by Ms

Ep 048: Rachel Ahtila: Chasing Your Dreams

December 17, 2015 by Cody Rich

rachel-ahtila-hunting-podcast

Welcome to The Rich Outdoors Hunting Podcast,  where it’s my job to chat with top hunters and industry professionals to figure out how to be more successful and to weed out the tips and tricks that they have learned over the years. They say a wise man learns from other’s mistakes, while a fool only learns from his own. While I am no wise man by any stretch of the imagination, hopefully we can take what others have learned before us and grow from that and maybe even have fun along the way as well. Today’s interview is no exception to the rule, for she is the walking example of chasing your dreams and fully engulfing yourself in the experience. Rachel Ahtila’s journey to becoming a sheep guide in the north country is both impressive and inspiring, and we had a blast chatting about all of the lessons learned along the way–or at least I did. Hope you guys enjoy the show. As always, be sure to leave us a review on iTunes and be sure to say hello to Rachel Ahtila on Facebook or Twitter (@RachelAhtila). [Read more…]

Ep 076: Comparing Pack Animals For Backcountry Hunting

August 18, 2016 by Cody Rich

Pack-animals-hunting-podcast
Welcome to the podcast we have an awesome show for you today this episode is something that I have wanted to do for a long time. I have always wanted to sit down and compare various pack animals and see what the pros and cons are. Originally I planned to make this three, 20 minute sections but there are just too many interesting questions to shut me up at 20 minutes, so this ended up being kind of a long podcast. I think over all this is a great resources to get started with when weighing some of the options for using pack animals. There is still a ton of information that did not get added and I still want to dive into some more pack topics in future episodes.
