I am excited to share this episode with you. Jaco I would say is a good friend of mine that I have known for a couple years just from hanging out at trade shows and various events. Jaco is kind of known in our group as the crazy South African, which is meant in the best way possible. Jaco is just a solid upbeat positive guy that is always having fun and making people laugh. Jaco and I sat down and turned the microphone on finally and just talked about Africa and African hunting. pretty interesting to chat with someone who literally eat, sleeps, and breaths it living over there and literally being in the outfitting business since he could walk.
Big thanks to the show sponsors for making the show happen every week, first off to OnX, I am a huge fan of On X. even this time of year and the more I use it the more I like it. I have been using the desktop version to do a bunch of scouting. whether it be looking at new units for draw areas or scouting for spring bear. when I scout through On X on my computer I can mark waypoints and points of interest that will sync up with the mobile app while I am in the field. The Mobile app is amazing because I can download the maps to my phone and use the maps and GPS with no service or in airplane mode to save the battery. On X is the most trusted public/ private mapping system, know where you stand with On X Maps get 20% off your membership with code TRO. Speaking of supporting the show. Thank you guys for all the support on my newest project Backcountry Fuel Box. I am pumped to share this with you guys and have had so much good feedback and honestly, I think you guys are going to love it. Personally, I would be stoked to get a monthly box full of the stuff we are putting in it. That’s why I started this project really was because it was something I wanted. A monthly box that sent me all the cool new options for backcountry meals, snack, bars and everything in between. Whether you want to try new options, stock up for your next trip or just save money on the stuff you will use anyway the monthly box is a great option. Every box is going to have at least a dinner, a breakfast, a meal replacement and enough snacks and bars to test out throughout the month until the next box. For $30 bucks a month you get $40-$50 dollars worth of gear and its quality stuff Not just a pile of cliff bars. Last week we gave away three boxes to lucky winners who signed up for the presale. Ryan Moxley, Tracie Koepplin, and Jason West all won they’re first box free! but now that the site is up we are officially taking orders and between now and March 15th one lucky winner is going to win a free subscription for life! yes for life! this is not a scam and you have my word as long as you still want the box and I’m still sending out boxes you will get a free box every month. You must sign up to win this prize! head over to Backcountryfuelbox.com and sign up for your monthly box of awesomeness and you could just win a free subscription for life.
In this episode, I sit down with the boys from The Experience YouTube channel Jason Price, Dan Catlin of the Wildlife Gallery, and Dallas Heyemer to chat about the crazy year they had traveling around the world. From Tajikistan for Marco Polo to Canada for Big Horns and Stones, and even Dallas’ Epic Mountain Goat hunt which is one of my favorite videos they did this year you gotta go check it out. We also bust Dallas’ balls a little but I promise it is all in good fun and no one actually got a tramp stamp tattoo, although for the record I would definitely get a tramp stamp tat for a sheep hunt. That’s probably out of context right here but it will make sense when you listen to the episode. Leave a comment if you would get a tramp stamp for a sheep hunt and we will pick someone to send a free TRO hat. Big thanks to the show sponsors today goHUNT.com Just this week I have had multiple emails asking how to get started applying out of state. How do you get started? First off bite the bullet and spend the $150 on a go hunt membership. If you want to hunt more elk or more deer this is a solid investment trust me. I always say buy tags, not gear this falls into the tags category. You don’t need a fancy pack in you don’t have an elk to put in it. This is the best place to get started and it has tons of info on how to apply, when to apply by, not to mention the easiest and fastest way to find where to actually put that dart on the map and start hunting. Go sign up if you’re not a member yet I do now because the longer you wait for more draw deadlines that go by. Use The Rich Outdoors Promo Code TRO when you sign up to help keep this mic on and you will get $50 credit to the gear shop.

Also a huge thank you to OnX maps for being such a great supporter of the podcast. These guys are crushing it in the map department. The New app is a game changer with tons of layers to interchange and even more on the way. I seriously don’t think I will use a GPS anymore. Why pack the extra weight when my phone is now a camera, a GPS, and sat phone. Mark waypoints send them to your buddies all kinds of cool features Use the TRO code and get 20% off your membership. Go support the company that makes the podcast possible. Go get both your OnX and your goHUNT memberships. Thanks, guys enjoy this episode with The Experience. Oh and go subscribe to their YouTube Channel.
Hey guys, were super excited about today’s show. Most of you guys have probably been following along on Born and Raised’s youtube channel and watched their Land of the Free series. If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend you watch this awesome series of fifty day’s elk hunting in five different states. It was an awesome project, and to celebrate the success of it, we hosted an event in Kelso Washington, and recorded this podcast live in front of an awesome audience of fans. The show was great, and we’re super thankful for those of you that bought tickets and attended, and we are thinking about doing another event in the future, so let us know where you guys would want us to go! We had tons of giveaways and raffles, and got to meet and talk to a bunch of fans, so you won’t want to miss the next one! For those of you who couldn’t make it though, we recorded the event to share with you guys. During the show, we did have some highlight videos to play, which you will hear in the podcast. So if you want to watch the event and see those videos, head over to the Born and Raised youtube channel, where we’ve posted a video recording with the highlight videos for you to watch. We hope you enjoy this behind the scenes podcast of the Land of the Free podcast, and thanks so much for listening!

This episode is brought to you by On X Hunt. I recently harvested a great bull in Montana and I owe a huge part of that to my OnX. This was an area that I had hunted years ago but because of On X Hunt I was actually able to find a new access point to get into the area from a new way and save myself a lot of miles. For that hunt, I actually spent a ton of time on my laptop scouting areas and marking locations which is super cool because then when I get out in the field all of those points of interest I marked on my computer are now right there on my phone. It all worked out really well and I ended up finding a really cool bull and was lucky enough to harvest him. Another really cool new feature of the OnX hunt app is that after I shot the bull I was able to share that location with my buddy Butch who was coming in to help me pack out. which made it super convenient for him to know exactly where to find me. On X Hunt is hands down my best hunting tool I have for under $100 dollars and highly recommend getting it. Check it out and use The Rich Outdoors promo code TRO to save %20 off your membership. On X Hunt know where you stand.

GoHUNT is continuously adding new features and adding so much value for its members that is blows me away. Hey everybody, I hope everyone had a great New Years. If you love to travel and hunt this episode is for you. Craig Van Arsdale is one of those guys you don’t hear much about but he definitely has a thirst for adventure. Craig recently traveled all the way to Greenland to Experience a muskox and caribou hunt in a gorgeous piece of the world. This sounds like a great adventure and in fact, Craig has been fortunate to have done quite a few adventure hunts. We chat a lot about traveling and hunting expeditions. We also talk rental cars of all things and the pain of trying to hunt out of a rental vehicle with some pretty comical stories about such. Hope you guys enjoy.
A big thank you to everyone who is coming down to the live event this weekend with Born and Raised and Phelps. We weren’t really sure how many people would want to come listen to us BS about hunting as this is the first live show but you guys sold out the theatre in just a few days so huge thank you for that and for the support. I know there were a ton of people that wanted to go but didn’t get tickets so I am sure we will do another show this year at some point. There will not be any tickets at the door just an FYI I know a lot of folks have asked that but there are no tickets left to sell. For those who did get tickets though it is going to be a good time and we have some surprises for you guys so look forward to seeing and hanging out with everyone this Saturday.
